Daily vs Weekly Website Backups: Which Shared Hosting Plan Do You Need?

Choose backup frequency from how much data you can afford to lose. If your business website changes only once a month, a weekly recovery point may be adequate. If it receives daily orders, form submissions, content updates or customer data, losing up to a week may be unacceptable and daily backups become more appropriate.

Soft2Hosting currently publishes weekly backup on Starter Pro, daily backup on Business Pro, and daily backup + restore on Enterprise Pro. That difference should be treated as a recovery feature, not just a plan-table checkbox.

The key concept: Recovery Point Objective

RPO asks: how much recent data could the business tolerate losing after a failure?

Site patternPotential backup direction
Static brochure site changed rarelyWeekly may be acceptable
Blog updated several times per weekDaily is safer
Lead-generation site with frequent form dataDaily or more application-specific protection
Ecommerce/customer account dataDaily may still be insufficient depending on transaction rate

A daily backup can still lose most of one day of changes. Critical transactional systems may need application-level/database protection more frequently than a normal shared-hosting schedule.

What a website backup needs to contain

A usable website recovery normally requires more than public HTML files. Depending on the application, recovery may need:

  • home-directory website files;
  • MySQL databases;
  • email or mail configuration where relevant;
  • DNS/domain configuration documentation;
  • uploads/media;
  • application configuration.

cPanel’s Backup Wizard supports backing up portions such as the home directory, MySQL databases and email forwarders/filters. Full-account restoration can require hosting-provider/WHM involvement depending on the backup type and platform.

Weekly backup: when it is reasonable

Weekly recovery can be reasonable for a small company website where:

  • content changes rarely;
  • there are no daily transactions;
  • forms send leads to an external mailbox/CRM;
  • the business keeps source copies of important content;
  • the team accepts recreating several days of changes if necessary.

Soft2Hosting Starter Pro includes weekly backup and is positioned for one website.

Daily backup: when it is worth paying for

Daily recovery points are more appropriate when:

  • WordPress content changes frequently;
  • the site has several editors;
  • plugins/themes are updated regularly;
  • the account hosts several websites;
  • losing a week of changes would materially disrupt the business.

Business Pro publishes daily backup. Enterprise Pro publishes daily backup + restore in its plan description.

Backup frequency is not the same as retention

“Daily backup” tells you how often a copy may be created, but not necessarily how many historical restore points are retained. Before relying on a backup system, confirm:

  • retention length;
  • where backups are stored;
  • whether restore is self-service or support-assisted;
  • whether email/databases are included;
  • whether deleted/expired accounts remain recoverable;
  • any restoration limits or charges.

Take an extra backup before risky changes

Regardless of the plan schedule, create an additional recovery point before:

  • major WordPress core/plugin/theme updates;
  • site migrations;
  • large database imports;
  • bulk content changes;
  • PHP/application version changes.

cPanel’s Backup/Backup Wizard interfaces can help users download account components when enabled by the provider.

Test restoration

A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption. Periodically test recovery of files/database into a controlled environment. Record who is responsible for requesting or performing the restore.

Backups do not replace security

Backups help recover after failures, mistakes or compromise, but they do not prevent attacks. Keep WordPress/PHP software patched, use strong credentials and protect cPanel/email accounts. If an attacker can access both production and all backups, recovery becomes harder.

Which Soft2Hosting plan fits backup needs?

PlanPublished backup featureUse case
Starter ProWeekly backupOne lower-change website
Business ProDaily backupMultiple/actively maintained sites
Enterprise ProDaily backup + restoreHigher-value multi-site account with stronger recovery feature set

Bottom line

Backup frequency should match the business’s tolerance for lost changes. Weekly can be enough for a mostly static site. Daily is a better fit for frequently updated websites. For transactional data, define the recovery requirement explicitly rather than assuming one daily snapshot solves every failure scenario.

Next step: compare Soft2Hosting shared-hosting plans and choose the backup frequency alongside website count, storage and email requirements.
